Mrs. Sherwin's Learning Center
Down on the Farm
September 17, 2007
Room 226 has been using a farm theme to study language arts, reading, vocabulary, spelling, and math. We are proud of our mural, which the students have filled with farm animals and objects, labeling the words underneath. We're counting farm animals, penning pigs, and learning about farm equipment. We are reading many books about farms, and singing songs. We have created our own verses to some old favorites. Old McDonald now has a verse entitled:
Mrs. Sherwin had a class,
AEIOU
And on that class she had some vowels,
AEIOU
As you can see, we are working hard on our vowel sounds, especially the short vowel sounds, and rhyming words. The students have also brought a folder home with them to keep a weekly rhyme or song we have learned to teach specific reading skills. Hopefully, they will bring their song or rhyme home weekly and put it in their folder, so by the end of the school year, they will have a nice collection. It would be very helpful if you would have them read their work to you on a regular basis.
Feel free to drop in and visit our room at any time and see what we are doing! We have a great bunch of kids!
