DI NEWS
Conestoga did very well at the State Destination Imagination contest in Kearney.
Of our 5 teams that qualified for State, 4 received recognition!
5th grade team- coached by Carol Uhe and Peggy Moore in “DI’ve Got a Secret.” The team members: Ellen, Claire, Claire, Jacob, Jacob, Megan, and MaKayla, Linda Sparks was their team judge. This team placed second and advances to Globals in Knoxville, Tennessee.
6th grade team- coached by Sheila Sawyer and Jennifer Hardesty in “Hit or Myth.” Team members: Sarah, Madison, Steven, Jim, Devanne, Tyler, and Brandon. Their team judge was Jan Madsen. This team placed second and advanced to Globals.
7th grade team- coached by Susan Rice in “Obstacles, of Course.” Team members: Lauren, Liz, Rachel, Andrea, Connor, Walker, and Kortni. Their team judge was MaryAnn Toman. This team placed second and advances to Globals.
A combination 3rd/4th grade team- coached by Linda Sparks and Jen Hoshor in “Switch”. Team members: Sam, Matt, Stephanie, Jaci, Kaylie, Skylar, and Mandi. Their team judge was Polly Costello. This team placed third and does not qualify for Globals.
Also attending was the 7th/8th grade team coached by Sheila Sawyer and April Hoshor in “Chorific”. Team members: Alexis, Savannah, Miranda, and Kelly. Their team judge was Ken Costello.
Parents met to begin planning fund raising activities. Several ideas were suggested. “Jean Days” on Fridays has been OKd and the staff will be given the opportunity to pay $5 for each Friday/Thursday that they wish to wear jeans to support the teams. Village Inn pie certificates were sold before Regionals. A Bingo night is being planned in the future, perhaps with a spaghetti dinner. Stay Tuned!
Donations are gratefully accepted and may be sent to the Elementary School in care of Susan Rice.
PTO CARNIVAL
Thank you! A very special thank you to all of the volunteers and participants in this year’s Spring Carnival! We were blown away by the support of the Conestoga Staff and families that helped make this year’s Carnival a huge success. The money raised by this event will go towards our new playground equipment which will be installed within the next month. A special thanks to those at the Bus Barn, the Girl and Boy Scouts, students from FBLA, Conestoga Elementary Student Council, Wendy Lowe and Bobbi Keene for coordinating the kitchen, Mrs. Schlichtemeier, Mrs. Burg, Mr. Dennis, and Mr. Holliman for coordinating the donations as they arrived at the school and for keeping us on track. Again, thank you for your donations of food and time. Thanks to you who attended the Carnival, we hope you had a Great Time! You’ve helped to make our school a better place for our Children.
Thank you,
The Conestoga PTO

NEWS FROM LIPS OF THE LIBRARY
We have been celebrating National Library Week. It was first observed in 1958 and sponsored by the American Library Association. We are working to fill the library display window with Accelerated Reader tests and Accelerated Reader Vocabulary tests. When the students have received 80% or above on their test and have shown them to their teachers and have gotten tickets they can earn, the TOPS reports are folded into paper airplanes and thrown into the display window. We are FLYING HIGH WITH READING at our Elementary building.
Please feel free to stop by the library window to take a look at how many tests have been taken in the past four days. The window will continue to fill until the end of the school year. National Library Week was the beginning of Flying High with Reading. Each Tuesday morning we will send one kindergarten student, one Principal, and one mystery guest into the window to draw the winning TOPS reports. Prizes announced each week. We are very willing to take donations of new items that children would enjoy.
The 80% requirement emphasizes quality as well as quantity reading. The ultimate goal of the Accelerated Reader program is to provide an opportunity for children to PRACTICE…PRACTICE…PRACTICE…READING
