Meeting Minutes:

Date:  February 2, 2010

Location: Conestoga Elementary School Library

Meeting Called to Order by:  Trinity Jensen, PTO President

Time:  7:01 p.m.

Attendance:  9 - 4 Officers, 3 Staff, 2 Parents

 

Officer Reports:

President:  Trinity Jensen

Welcome.  Thank you's were read from the Head Start, Pre-School and Kindergarten classrooms for the art grant.  The grant was used for a one-man production of the Big Bad Wolf and other stories.  Mrs. Madsen thanked the group for money from the Book Fair.  Both Head Start and Mrs. Parson's 3rd grade classrooms thanked the PTO for books given at Christmas.

Treasurer:  Tracey Priefert

  1. The PTO account currently has a checking account balance of $13,762.75, a savings account balance of $1,120.32, for a total of $14.883.07.  

Principal's Report:  Eric Dennis

  1. Four snow days will be made up.  Please visit the website for any changes to the dates.  Currently, the make up days are Monday, February 22nd, Friday, March 12, Monday, March 22nd, and Friday, April 9th.
  2. Parents, please attend the upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences on Wednesday and Thursday, February 17 and 18.  Please continue to show support of the efforts and progress of our teachers and your children.
  3. Kindergarten Round-Up will be held on March 24.
  4. The First Grade classrooms now have Promethean Boards installed and in use.  This technology allows for inter-active learning, including clickers for the students to use to answer questions.  Electronic results help teachers see what areas need further instruction.

Committee Reports:

Parent Teacher Conferences:  Jenny Cook

  • Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on February 17 and 18.  Warm sandwiches will be served.  Parents will be asked to contribute cold salads, fruit and chips.  An email will be sent by Jenny to ask for volunteers.

Skate City:  Trinity Jensen  

  • Our next skating event will be held on March 4th at Skate City.  There will be no school on Friday, March 5th, so come out and enjoy the fun.

Basket Auction/Ice Cream Social:  Jennifer Hoshor/Peg Moore

  • The Basket Auction and Ice Cream Social will be  held on March 11th in the school cafeteria and stage.  The event will begin at 5:30, with bidding to end at 7:30.  The event will end at 8:00.  Each teacher has requested items for a theme-based basket for the classroom.  Basket items are due on Thursday, February 25th.
  • Tracey Priefert and Jen Hoshor will put the baskets together and price the baskets.  Help is always appreciated.
  • Requests for ice cream and toppings will be sent by Peg Moore.  

Spring Carnival:  Allison Welch

  • The Spring Carnival will be held on Friday, April 16th in the Elementary School gym.  
  • Volunteer forms, for food and staffing of games, redemption, ticketing and concessions, will be sent out in early March.

Teacher Appreciation Week:  Wendy Lowe

  • Teachers will receive lunch during Teacher Appreciation Week.  
  • Other activities will be decided.  

Old Business

  • Please continue to submit your office descriptions and fund raiser notes to Trinity for our new PTO Handbook.  
  • There are two remaining Art Grants.  Kindergarten, Fourth Grade, and Sixth Grade have taken advantage of this program.  Grants will be given on a first come basis.  

New Business

Music Grant Request:  Ms. Bair

  • Ms. Bair requested the following to enhance her students' music learning experience:
    • $99 - Listening Resource Kit
    • $25 Recorder Resource Kit 1 Powerpoint
    • $25 Big BAG Book with Powerpoint
    • $20 Teacher's Guide for the Composers' Specials Video Series
    • $23.78 two Rhythm Band Wood Guiros
    • $25.98 two Rhythm Band Claves
    • $99.95 five LP Pro Maracas
    • $24.99 Rhythm Band Lummi Sticks
  • Ms. Bair would like to use the other portion of her $500 grant to purchase durable items, i.e. buckets, trash cans, drum sticks, etc. for her Found Sound program.
  • A motion was made to approve the purchase of the above mentioned supplies plus shipping and handling with an additional $150 to be used toward the purchase of durable items for the Found Sound band.  The motion was seconded.  There was no discussion.  The motion was passed.

Other Money Discussion:  Trinity Jensen

  • Reminder - there are two $200 grants still available for the Artist in Residence Program.
  • Clickers are being used with the new Promethean Boards.  Thirty-two clickers are being used by 4th and 6th grades.  Mr. Dennis would like to purchase clickers for 5th grade.  $5,398 is needed for two sets of 32 clickers.

Our next meeting will be held on March 2, 2010 at 7:00 in the Conestoga Elementary School Library.
