Meeting Minutes

Date: April 1, 2008

Location: Conestoga Elementary School Teacher Work Room

Meeting Called to Order By: Peggy Moore, PTO President

Time: 7:05 p.m.

Attendance: 10 - 3 Officers, 2 Staff, 5 Parents

Officer’s Reports:

President: Peggy Moore

1. A thank you note from Mrs. Faith.

Treasurer: Wendy Lowe

1. The PTO account currently has a balance of $26,825. These funds are appropriated for the cookbook, teacher and field trip grants, and the playground addition.

Principal: Eric Dennis

1. A survey concerning the four-day school week will be mailed in the following week. The surveys must be completed and returned by April 18.
2. The health/fitness center building has been approved. The building will benefit the school and community by providing additional work-out and practice area. Troy Rufner is heading the campaign. The school board has approved $90,000, an additional $60,000 in donations has been pledged. The total cost of the building has been set at $250,000. However, the total cost after volunteer help is estimated at $150-160,000. The building site has been established at the high school.
3. The elementary school will add a 6th grade teacher and replace a SPED teacher for the 2008-2009 school year. Classroom arrangements for the 2008-2009 school year are as follows: three sixth-grade classes, three fifth-grade classes, three fourth-grade classes, two third-grade classes, two second-grade classes, two first-grade classes and three kindergarten classes. These changes have been made to accommodate the number of students in each grade level.

Committee Reports:

1. Skate Party Committee. Speaker: Linda Sparks, PTO volunteer.
The skate party was attended by 99 students, parents, and teachers. The parties for the 2008-2009 season have been scheduled for November and March. Watch for exact dates.
2. Carnival Committee. Speaker: Trinity Jensen, chair.
The carnival is coming along nicely. Donations and volunteers are still pouring in. Trinity will be counting pre-sale orders Thursday at 10:00 a.m. if anyone would like to help. Peggy Moore volunteered to donate a helium tank.
3. Teacher Appreciation Committee. Speaker: Peggy Moore, chair.
Teacher appreciation week is May 4 - 10. A breakfast cart and luncheon will be scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday of that week. Volunteers will be needed.
4. Playground Committee. Speaker: Trinity Jensen, chair.
The playground will arrive May 12. Installation will begin the week of May 12.
5. Cookbook Committee. Speakers: Wendy Lowe and Bobbi Keene, co-chairs.
The cookbooks have arrived. A sales table will be set-up in by the ticket booth for cookbook sales. The office will also advertise cookbooks. Cookbooks can be purchased for $25.00.

Old Business: none.

New Business:

1. Peg Moore will inquire about promoting the schools academic achievements in the Plattsmouth Journal.
2. Five DI teams are headed to state. The PTO will consider fund-raising and/or donating funds if the teams advance to Globals.

Announcements:

1. PTO officer elections will be held at the May 6 PTO meeting.
2. The next PTO meeting will be held on May 6, 2008 at the Conestoga Elementary School in the teachers’ workroom.
