March Minutes
Date: March 4, 2008
Location: Conestoga Elementary School Board Room. The meeting location was changed due to a scheduling conflict in the Library.
Meeting Called to Order By: Peggy Moore, PTO President
Time: 7:05 p.m.
Attendance: 9 - 4 Officers, 3 Parents, 1 Staff
Officer’s Reports:
President: Peggy Moore
1. Thank you to:
a. Jennifer Hoshor for chairing the basket auction.
b. Sheryl Hanssen, Linda Sparks, and Wendy Lowe for volunteering
for the basket auction.
c. Michelle Boyce for chairing the ice cream social.
d. Ice cream social volunteers for scooping and donating 19 pail of
ice cream and toppings.
e. Conestoga families for donating items for the baskets.
f. Ms. Bair for providing entertainment for the ice cream
social.
g. Fran Cutler for organizing another Box Top Blitz.
2. A thank you note was received from Mrs. Leffler.
3. Due to a busy school schedule, the ongoing cookbook fund-raiser
and the installation of the playground project, the following
events will not be scheduled: Family Movie Night, Mad Science,
Summer Camps, Spring book fair.
Treasurer: Wendy Lowe
1. The PTO account currently has a balance of $26,463.01.
2. Most of these funds have been allocated for the cookbook order,
teacher grants, and the playground equipment/installation.
Principal: Eric Dennis
1. Jr. Kindergarten will not be offered for the 2008-2009 school
year. Instead, there will be three kindergarten classes.
2. Mr. Dennis is currently petitioning the Board of Education to
approve
a. a full-time HAL position
b. a full-time title position
c. a total of three SPED teachers
d. an additional sixth-grade teacher position.
e. These changes may or may not add additional staff members.
3. The elementary students collected over $2,800 during the
Leukemia Society’s Penny’s for Patients Fundraiser.
4. The Terra Nova tests will be taken by third through sixth-grade
students April 15-18, 2008.
5. A parent survey will be mailed to Conestoga families regarding
the future of the four-day school week.
6. The fitness center proposal will be presented to the Board of
Education at the next board meeting.
Committee Reports:
1. Skate Party Committee. Speaker: Linda Sparks, parent
volunteer.
a. The spring skate party is scheduled for March 11 from 6-8 at
SkateCity.
b. The parties for the 2008-2009 school year will be scheduled
shortly.
2. Basket Auction Committee. Speaker: Peggy Moore, PTO
president.
a. The basket auction raised $2215. $500 of this amount is still
outstanding.
b. The PTO sold two dinner and dessert packages. The following
persons volunteered to donate meals: Peggy Moore and Jenny Cook in
March; Fran Cutler and Renee Thakur in April; Wendy Lowe and Linda
Sparks in May.
3. Playground Committee. Speaker: Trinity Jensen, chair.
a. The playground equipment has been ordered. It should arrive in
the next six to eight weeks.
b. The date for installation will be set shortly.
4. Box Tops for Education. Speaker: Fran Cutler, chair.
a. The Box Top Blitz earned $635. Total earned is about $1550 this
year.
b. Fran is monitoring classroom donations to reward a classroom
with a pizza party.
5. Cookbook Committee. Speakers: Wendy Lowe and Bobbi Keene,
co-chairs.
a. The cookbooks have been ordered. They should arrive in time for
the carnival.
6. Cougar Tracks. Speaker: Peggy Moore, chair.
a. The program will be incorporated with the Enlighten Kids program
in March and April.
b. This program will be facilitated by Mrs. Harvey in P.E. classes
for all grades.
c. A big thank you to Mrs. Harvey for all of her hard work to
come.
7. Carnival Committee. Speaker: Trinity Jensen, chair.
a. The carnival is set for April 11, 2008 from 5:30-8:30.
b. The volunteer form will go home with students on March 14.
Allison Welch is chairing the volunteer committee.
c. The pre-sales brochure will go home with students on April 2.
Currently, a chair person is needed for this committee.
d. Wendy Lowe and Bobbi Keene will co-chair the concessions.
e. The high school play has been scheduled for the same night. This
is a little worrisome as it takes over 100 volunteers to staff the
carnival, almost half these volunteers are FFA and/or high school
students. The committee will attempt to lessen the volunteers
needed, but anyone able to volunteer will be greatly
appreciated.

Announcements:
1. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the Conestoga Elementary School Library.
