Meeting Minutes

Location: Conestoga Elementary School Library

Meeting Called to Order By: Peggy Moore, PTO President

Time: 7:03 p.m.

Attendance: 16 - 4 Officers, 2 Staff, 10 Parents

Officer’s Reports:

President: Peggy Moore

Thank you to:
1. Trinity Jensen for heading the playground committee.
2. Jenny Cook, Renee Thatcher, Allison Welch for organizing the giving tree.
3. The book fair volunteers for all of their help.
4. Wendy Lowe and Bobbi Keene for organizing the recipe book fund-raiser.
5. Linda Sparks and Wendy Lowe for organizing the holiday book project.

Treasurer: Wendy Lowe

1. The PTO account currently has a balance of $23,376.

Principal’s Report: Eric Dennis

1. The kindergarten through third grade Holiday program will be held on December 13.

Committee Reports:

1. Box Tops Committee. Speaker: Peggy Moore, President.
The Box Top Blitz winners popcorn party will be held December 7. Mrs.
Yeoman’s class and any student who brought in more than 100 Box Tops during the Blitz will be awarded. Fran Cutler will help pop and deliver the popcorn.
2. Book Fair Committee. Speaker: Linda Sparks, Chair.
Holiday books are ready to be delivered. The books are purchased with book fair
proceeds. All students, including preschool students, will receive a free book for the holidays. Proceeds from the book fair also went toward a $75 shopping spree for each teacher, including specialty teachers; $1,600 in Spanish-speaking books and next years holiday book inventory; and funds for the library to purchase books through the resource catalog.
3. Spring Fund Raiser Committee. Speakers: Wendy Lowe, Bobbi Keene, co-chairs. The committee is currently collecting and entering recipes. The deadline for submitting recipes is December 20, although they might extend this. Recipes must be entered by January 30 in order for the books to be delivered by April 1.
4. Cougar Tracks Committee. Speaker: Peggy Moore, chair. The fourth through sixth grade classes participated in the Cougar Tracks program logging an amazing 21,649 miles between September 1 and November 16. A luau is being planned with the help of Ms. Friesen and Mr. Dennis. Cougar Tracks will become a budgeted item for the 2008-2009 PTO budget.
5. Playground Equipment Committee. Speaker: Trinity Jensen, chair. Two companies have submitted bids. Outdoor Recreation Products has been selected to provide the equipment. Specific equipment will be chosen and a revised bid will be introduced to the PTO for approval.

Old Business: None.

New Business:

1. Mr. Stanley, a school board member, stated that in a strategic board meeting in May it was decided that an informal steering team would be formed with the purpose of addressing several issues: 1) communicating the purpose and message of the Conestoga School District to patrons and parents; 2) developing pride within the community by “branding” Conestoga with a consistent logo and mission statement; 3) developing school pride by getting the students more involved with their school and education. This steering team will be made up of many different members, including the one or two participants from the PTO. The steering team will mainly communicate via e-mails and an on-line web blog system. Interested parties may contact Jeff Stanely.

1. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the Conestoga Elementary School Library.
